Main ingredients in Punarnavadi Kashayam are Boerhaavia diffusa, Cedrus deodara, Terminalia chebula, Azadirachta indica, zingiber officinale. Pharmacological action of Punarnavadi Kashayam assuages kapha and pitta conditions when in extreme. It is a natural and herbal diuretic remedy, which can be used to increasing urine output of patient in various diseases such as generalized edema, kidney failure, ascites or myxedema etc. Initially it increases urine output and then balances urinary outflow. It decreases generalized swelling to due excess fluid accumulation in the body.
Punarnavadi Kashayam is also anti-inflammatory. Due to this, it is commonly prescribed in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Moreover, its anti-inflammatory action can be seen on liver as well. It reduces inflammation due to various liver ailments such as viral hepatitis and hepatitis B. It also corrects liver metabolism and decreases serum bilirubin level.
