Description
The medicinal value of Brahmi Ghrita finds a reference in Ashtangahrudayam Uttarsthana 6/23-25 and also in Charaka Samhita Chikitsa Sthana 10/25. It is used for the treatment of various ailments; it is used in the preparatory procedure known as Snehakarma to improve learning skills, memory, intelligence and speech; those suffering from skin diseases, epilepsy and infertile women are recommended the use of this ghee for therapeutic uses; it finds use in treating depression, fatigue, myalgia body ache induced by depression, and stress disorders.
Brahmi Ghrita can be used as product by taking one-quarter or half-teaspoon with warm water, before food, once or twice in a day. For those healthy people who want to use Brahmi Ghrita as a brain tonic, half-teaspoon of the product should be taken before taking morning beverage for up to two months. This is because after taking this ghee, a hot drink has to be taken for effective use. The ghee is also used for the preparation of Panchakarma for the Snehana procedure, the dose prescribed by an Ayurvedic doctor depends on the status of the disease.
Some consuming guidelines should be followed while using Brahmi Ghrita; drink hot water after taking Brahmi Ghrita, cold water or cold food should be avoided after taking the ghee and while taking Brahmi Ghrita, excess garlic, onion or non-vegetarian food should be avoided.
There are some foods which should be taken more often during the therapeutic use of Brahmi Ghrita; one should take foods rich in Vitamin E such as sunflower seeds, almonds, nuts and fortified cereals; vegetable oils, fish oils, cooked spinach, turnip greens, peanuts, tomatoes, wheat germ, peanut butter, avocado, and soybean should be taken in plentiful during this period.
Medical advice is recommended for pregnant women before they use Brahmi Ghrita. People with heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes and high BP should use it only under medical supervision. If taken in high dose, Brahmi Ghrita may cause indigestion and diarrhea.
